Behind the Lens: Preparing the MAAP 944 for Bring-A-Trailer

By Luke Gilmore

This month, I was given the opportunity to photograph MAAP’s Porsche 944 for a Bring-A-Trailer auction. These kinds of photoshoots take a while, but they are always rewarding when you see the car sell in the auction. The 944 has been at MAAP for quite some time. It’s been used at autocross events and has helped students learn how to work in the racing industry. We are now selling it, in hopes that other students can work on it and take it to the track in the near future.

The Key to Success

The key to success with these shoots is to take pictures of everything. The photos above are featured on the auction website. When shooting for a Bring-A-Trailer auction, the photographer has to take photos of every part so the buyer knows what they are getting. The 944 is not a garage queen. It’s meant to be tracked and used to its fullest potential. The original owner put lots of work and parts into this car. He kindly donated it to MAAP so students could learn how to work on it. Last year, MAAP alumni Jace Taylor and Jake Mennes were lucky enough to take the 944 to the Salem Autocross. While it is sad to see this car go, we are glad that it will be sold to someone who has a passion for racing. Down below are some of the photos from the Salem Autocross.
